Yesterday..

Filed under: Driving, General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 11:06 am

Yesterday I spent my lunch hour driving my cousin around to pick up his E30 cabrio from the shipping company.

This time, the customs office had taken a look at the car the same morning, and he got the papers released, and paid the necessary import taxes, then we went down to the Eimskip loading area to pick up the car. We had no clue where to go, so we drove up to some gate, the gate had an intercomm and I pressed the “Dial” button on it.

News.. I suppose

Filed under: General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 5:15 pm

I naturally got outrageously drunk, impressed everyone by doing pushup jumps on my fists, got into a minor brawl, and rolled cigarettes all night, courtesy of my cousin’s drum. My knuckles are still healing, and my new gsm phone is damaged .. I think it’s time to take a rest from drinking, it’s just not worth it in the long run — and when I’m drunk there’s an overwhelming chance I either hurt myself, someone else, or damage my own property.

Strange days

Filed under: General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 10:20 pm

Haven’t been very active posting here, not terribly much happening either. I’ve been working quite a lot this week, and I’ve been rather — intellectually breathless — for lack of a better term.

Been sleeping 4 hours per night, etc, and I’m barely functioning right.. Maybe soon I’ll have the intellectual strength to write some more here, I’m sure if I had the emotional strength such as my friend sulkd has, this blog might be more active, but for now I’ll satisfy my needs by listening to smashing pumpkins, and having a cold one.

Cheers people.

Stallman lays it out — Patent absurdity

Filed under: Freedom, Technology — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 5:56 pm

I’m not a big fan of software patents, in fact they could one day very well threaten my livelyhood, so it’s always nice when people oppose them, Richard M. Stallman is one of the staunchest defenders of our freedom from patents, and he has recently had this article in the Guardian published. Guardian Unlimited | Online | Patent absurdity

As often it’s a joy to read Stallman explaining his point of view in an organized, clear way, however little joy can be derived from reading about such a serious matter. Software patents do threaten to cut out us small players from the software market, at a great disadvantage for humanity — who but the megacorporations benefit from their monopoly?

Back in the city of fear

Filed under: General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 12:10 am

Yes, Reykjavík is ironically referred to as the city of fear sometimes — don’t ask.

I’m still reeling from the last three days, most of which have been spent terribly terribly drunk, or equally hung over. I haven’t partied this hard since the first weekend of august 2002.

Farewell 21, hello 22

Filed under: Driving, General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 4:15 pm

Today — actually right about *now* — there are 22 years since I blessed the world with my arrival. A selfless sacrifice, even though I say so myself, because the lot of you can be quite the burden sometimes! Don’t take me too seriously, I’m only half as good as I say I am, and half as bad as you think I am.

The great Ford hope?

Filed under: Driving — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 2:22 pm

The party ended up with me driving my cousins banged up ‘87 Mitsubishi Lancer, with Anton the garage owner in the trunk, and various guys from the party stuffed in the car. My cousin, who had earlier claimed he was a gentleman — after having ripped his t-shirt off and ran screaming around swinging it over his head — now proceeded to moon passers-by from the front seat of the car, before climing on top of the car and sliding down on the windscreen. Anton tried without much luck to moon people from the trunk, there were space restrictions to deal with.

Northern man I am..

Filed under: General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 2:31 pm

On friday I took a road trip up north for a 8-9 day vacation. The drive from Reykjavík to Akureyri is a roughly 4 hour drive, a total of 380km. But given traffic jams when you’re leaving Reykjavík, and the fact that you need to stop and piss at least once along the way, you’re usually there in 5 hours.

Are *you* fit to drive?

Filed under: Driving, General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 9:14 am

If you’re trying to answer that question, take a moment and think which sex you’d rather be in bed with? According to ananova, if you like to run your fingers through someone’s chest hair, you’re not fit to drive.

My car is back on the road..

Filed under: Driving — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 4:58 pm

So I returned from Brimbürgh with my worn plastic cube, returned to the site of my car and spent an hour returning it to the same fragile running condition it was in on wednesday night when me and Tobbi finished it last time. I have to admit, having my engine properly secured in my engine bay, and not held up by a few pavement tiles is very comforting. And being able to jump into my car and drive somewhere - albeit very gently - is load off my chest.

BetaLean first results?

Filed under: General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 10:38 am

Just a quickie on the effectiveness of BetaLean, which I started trying out yesterday. The recommended dosage is two caps, twice per day. I took one cap before lunch, and one thirty minutes before exercising. Yesterday I was extraordinarily active, I worked on my car for 2 hours, took a 55 minute walk for tools, then last night I ran 4km and at the beginning of the Njálsgata hill I had some spare energy even and thrashed myself up the hill. When I came inside I whipped up a whey protein shake using the skyr.is vanilla drink, two tablespoons of whey protein, and some ice cubes. I proceeded to drinking half of the shake, and did some pushups, liftups, situps etc. Then I took a shower, and went on the computer.

The total tally for last night is something like 4km of running, 100 pushups, 25 liftups, 150 situps, and 100×6kg on each arm of lifting, as well as doing the dishes, and folding/hanging/washing my clothes, and even cleaning the apartment a bit. To sum up, I was energetic. I’ll see in the next few days if this was a fluke or not.

Fix or repair daily?

Filed under: Driving — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 8:57 pm

Recently I’ve been thinking if I should add a category on my page called “repairing”, since a sizable portion of my posts under “driving” are in fact about repairs or break downs. I decided against this in the end though, because ultimately I’m “the driver”, and not “the mechanic” — I’ll let that honour be someone elses.
