Range Rover Sport

Filed under: Driving, General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 2:17 am

Earlier when I mentioned the four cars I imagined myself owning, if I ever become very well off, and one of them I mused would be the Range Rover Sport. The main reason I’d have this instead of the normal Range Rover, is because it’s sporting and according to many journalists, including Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear, it drives like a sport saloon.

Calm seas

Filed under: General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 7:01 pm

As mentioned before, my car is acting up, so not a lot is happening with me. Last night I went out for a drink with Ingi who I’m collaborating with at work. It was great fun and we ended up meeting lots of people, there amongst Sindri, a former colleague of mine and sulkds, back from when we all worked for FRISK Software. Good evening all around, although I’m feeling a touch guilty about Ingi’s bar tab, which I probably added a few thousand ISK to.

I won’t say that the day today is as good, mostly because I’m still rather hung over, even though I went to Vitabar and had the hangover special — beer+burger combo.

Oh well, in store for me tonight is some heavy watching, I just got the last four episodes of Lost, and I just got the latest season of Fifth Gear, as well as a bunch of Top Gear episodes which I hope some of which I haven’t seen.

Final drive ratio..

Filed under: Driving, General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 1:53 am

Tonight I drove a final drive in a way, and I’m also coming close to finding out the ratio between my car actually working, and not.

Changing oil using household items, yeeeha!

Filed under: Driving, General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 8:53 pm

I just changed the oil on the focus, and I found I didn’t have a funnel, nor a good container to take the oil flowing from the oil pan. Enter my kitchenware! I used some bowl from ikea to collect the oil, except it only takes about 3 liters, and the engine uses 4.25L. So another bowl from ikea enters the equation. Oil all over my neighbours driveway enters the equation as well.

Unorthodox tuning part 2.

Filed under: General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 8:30 am

These past few days I’ve been experimenting with my new tuning technique, of reducing myself. For the last 3 years or so I’ve been conscious of carbs, and have tried to keep my protein intake up, and it’s paid off, I’m leaner and meaner than I’ve been for years. I once did a month on a very strict (less than 15g of carbs per day) low-carb diet, and I lost 10kg (roughly 20 pounds) during that month. I do however think that such a diet is too harsh and too hard to follow for very long, so I’d recommend a more sane approach, such as the T-Dawg diet mentioned by my friend sulkd on his blog yesterday.

Jaguar changing its image?

Filed under: Driving, General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 5:55 pm

According to this article at Automotive Intelligence, Jaguar is moving up the ladder in surveys quite a bit, number 2. in the industry out of 36, when it came to quality of 90 day old vehicles?

Well, I don’t think anyone expected many Jaguars to break down after 90 days, or hardly any car for that matter?

Whatever the merit of this survey, when Jaguar are making a car that looks like this:
Looking good
They deserve some good press, the X-Type is just stunning.

According to the automotive press the new 2005 model also drives better than the BMW 3 (E46 I imagine) series, the Audi A4, and the Saab 9-3. The midrange model being the 3.0 V6 model, powered by the Ford Duratec V6 engine, developing 231 bhp, very smoothly, making the AWD car a rewarding drivers car — so they say, I’d like to drive one :-)

I wonder if 231bhp is some best-compromise horsepower figure for 6 cylinder 3.0L engines? The BMW 3.0i straight-6 engine in the X5 and the Z4 3.0i cars also developes 231bhp. Gotta love the human brain and it’s pattern finding abilities ;-)

Gumball?

Filed under: Driving, General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 10:00 am

Yesterday me and sulkd watched the movie ‘6 days in may’, which accounts for the 2004 Gumball 3000 rally. I didn’t know much about last years rally before watching the movie, however I knew that the Reyland escort would be there, and that it rolled somewhere along the way. Naturally I was excited about seeing the movie, and hoped to see some high speed stunts I could be in awe of.

Sleep, s60igns from god, ’80s icons..

Filed under: Driving, Testdrives — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 1:09 pm

I’m looking for a daily driver, needing a mixture of performance, style, and of course driving pleasure. Since 2001-2002 I’ve had a thing for Volvo S60’s, and today I drive one god sent me a sign about!?

Oh where oh where can my baby be…

Filed under: Driving, General — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 9:09 pm

Even with 50/50 weight distribution and 15 inch tires, controlling a car at 100+ km/h in a gravel turn is pretty hard. My focus knows first hand.

Finally, the dealership gets the hose I needed for my car, so back on the road it is, life decides to fuck with me on other fronts instead though :-/

Busy day..? Drove S40 2.0D and new Focus 1.6L estate

Filed under: Driving, Testdrives — Steinn E. Sigurðarson @ 6:39 pm

I take the Volvo S40 2.0D and the Ford Focus 1.6L estate cars for a spin, in my research of the new C1 platform, currently used for the Ford Focus, Volvo S40, and Mazda3. Is the new platform, although marginally safer, as good as the old focus?
